- Do I need to download or install anything with your marketing programs?
No. All your reports are generated from our servers and provided upon customer request. All you need to do is make sure you are signed up with us for a hosting package, order a marketing plan, and you may need to provide us with some additional information about your site. You will receive your reports via email so you will be able to archive all your site reports for future reference.
- How is my site submitted?
Geek City USA will submit your site for you after your initial setup and once every month after that. This is all done for you by Geek City USA after you select your marketing package and your setup is processed.
Remember, most search engines take 8-12 weeks before they will index a newly submitted site. Use this waiting period time to use our tools and optimize your site for inclusion.
- Do I really need to keep re-submitting my site to the search engines?
The important thing to remember when it comes to search engine re-submission is not to over do it. This can be construed as spam by the search engines. It is highly recommended that you resubmit pages of your site once per month so your URL(s) will not be dropped from the search engines index. This service is included automatically with every Geek City USA marketing package.
- How long does it take for my site to be listed by a search engine?
Many of the search engines we submit your website address (URL) to can take up to 8 to 12 weeks to list your site. Search engines, on average, receive thousands of submissions every day so this can be a lengthy process. The approximate time for some of the more popular search engines to list sites are:
8-10 weeks: Altavista, Excite, HotBot, Lycos, Webcrawler
8-12 weeks: Yahoo!
- I want to remove or change a URL. How can I do this?
If you would like to change or remove one of your URLs, please contact our support department, who will be happy to assist you. Note: After adding an additional URL, we cannot remove the optional ones until the next billing cycle.
- I've heard that frames can cause problems with search engines. How do I get my frames site listed?
Frames basically display two web pages in one browser window. Search engine "spiders" don't "know" which frame to use because there is no HTML body tags to compare the meta tags with to determine relevancy.
Here is an easy tip that can help your frame site get accepted and placed by search engines. One of the best places to implement relevant text matches in your sites HTML code is the noframes tag.
The code generally looks like this:
*NO FRAMES TAG*
Your Browser Does Not Support Frames
*END NO FRAMES TAG*
The only text a search engine will read on your index page is: "Your Browser Does Not Support Frames". This will not provide the necessary text match for a spider to determine relevancy.
By adding relevant text information, (ie the body text and links of your main page) the spider will have a place to determine a keyword ratio. Example:
